Mikel Arteta Raises Concerns Over Bukayo Saka's Hamstring Injuries

Posted on August 30, 2025

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has voiced significant concerns regarding Bukayo Saka's ongoing hamstring issues after the young winger suffered his second hamstring injury in less than a year. Saka, who previously missed three months of last season due to a right hamstring injury, was forced off during Arsenal's recent 5-0 victory over Leeds after experiencing discomfort in his left hamstring.

Arteta confirmed that Saka will be sidelined for "a few weeks" but emphasized that surgery is not required this time, indicating that the injury is less severe than initially feared. However, Saka's absence will be felt keenly as Arsenal prepares to face Liverpool, and he has also been omitted from the England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The manager expressed the urgency of addressing Saka's injury concerns, especially given his role as a key player for both club and country. "It is a big concern, especially for a sprinter like him who relies on bursts of pace," Arteta remarked, stressing the need to understand the reasons behind the injuries to help Saka improve and prevent further setbacks.

In addition to Saka, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is also facing uncertainty after suffering a shoulder injury during the match against Leeds, although he has been called up for Norway's upcoming fixtures. Meanwhile, Kai Havertz will miss out after undergoing knee surgery, further depleting Arteta's options ahead of their crucial clash against Liverpool.

As Arsenal looks to maintain momentum in the Premier League, the manager is hopeful that new signing Eberechi Eze can step up in the absence of Saka and other injured players, showcasing the depth and resilience of the squad.
