Matheus Cunha Injury Update: Concerns and Potential Return for Manchester United Star
Posted on September 01, 2025
Matheus Cunha’s injury during Manchester United's recent 3-2 victory over Burnley has raised concerns for both the player and the club. The £62.5 million summer signing was forced to leave the match in the first half after appearing to sustain a hamstring injury. His early exit, which occurred shortly after he was replaced by Joshua Zirkzee, added to the team’s troubles as they also had to withdraw Mason Mount due to a separate fitness issue.
Manager Ruben Amorim admitted to being worried about the injuries to Cunha and Mount, highlighting their importance to the squad. "It was hard to lose Cunha and Mount," he said, acknowledging the impact of their absence on the team's competitiveness. The exact nature and severity of Cunha's injury are still unclear, pending further medical tests.
In a development that could bring some relief, reports suggest that Cunha was seen walking freely after the game, which may indicate that his injury is less severe than initially feared. Nevertheless, the Brazil international will miss upcoming international fixtures against Chile and Bolivia due to the injury.
As for his potential return to action, it remains uncertain. Cunha’s status for United’s next match against local rivals Manchester City on September 14 will depend on the results of his medical evaluations. Until then, the club will be closely monitoring his recovery as they seek to maintain momentum in the Premier League.
