Liverpool Set to Sign Alexander Isak in British-Record £125 Million Deal
Posted on September 01, 2025
Liverpool is poised to complete a British-record transfer for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, with an agreement reportedly reached for a fee of £125 million. This deal surpasses the £115 million that Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in the summer of 2023. Isak is expected to undergo a medical on Monday morning and sign a six-year contract with the Anfield club.
The transfer follows Liverpool's earlier bid of £110 million, which Newcastle rejected, as they sought a higher price for their star player. Initially, Newcastle held out for £150 million, but their stance softened after Isak expressed his desire to leave the club, refusing to train or play with his teammates. This change in dynamics allowed Liverpool to make a decisive move for the forward.
Newcastle's acceptance of Liverpool's offer was facilitated by their recent signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for up to £69 million, which opened the door for Isak's departure. The club is also actively seeking a replacement for Callum Wilson, who left on a free transfer, and has made several attempts to sign other strikers, including Brentford's Yoane Wissa.
As Deadline Day approaches, the transfer market remains heated, with Isak's impending move to Liverpool expected to be one of the summer's most significant signings, enhancing their attacking options as they aim to compete for titles this season.
