Nicolas Jackson Joins Bayern Munich in Record-Breaking Loan Deal from Chelsea
Posted on September 02, 2025
Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has officially signed with Bayern Munich on an initial loan deal that includes an obligatory purchase option. The agreement marks a significant milestone in transfer history, as the loan fee of £14.2 million ($19.2 million) is reported to be the highest ever for a one-year loan. This move follows a complicated negotiation process, during which Bayern had to improve their offer to persuade Chelsea to release the player.
Initially, the loan deal was put on hold when Chelsea canceled it due to Liam Delap suffering a hamstring injury, which left the club in need of additional attacking options. Despite being asked to return to Chelsea, Jackson chose to stay in Munich with his agent, hoping to finalize the deal. After negotiations resumed, Chelsea agreed to a loan arrangement that includes a purchase clause based on the number of appearances Jackson makes for Bayern.
Upon joining Bayern, Jackson expressed his excitement about the move, stating, "I’m really happy to now be part of this great club." He acknowledged Bayern's rich history and success, committing to contribute to the team's pursuit of further titles. Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, praised Jackson's versatility and attacking prowess, highlighting his speed and ability to create opportunities.
The total cost of the deal, including the purchase clause, could reach £70.4 million. Jackson, who was signed by Chelsea from Villarreal for £32 million in 2023, enjoyed a successful stint at Stamford Bridge, netting 30 goals and providing 12 assists in 81 appearances. However, with Chelsea's recent recruitment of new attacking players, including Delap and João Pedro, the club's strategy has shifted, leading to Jackson's departure.
