Rasmus Hojlund and Antony Depart Manchester United for Napoli and Real Betis

Posted on September 02, 2025

Manchester United has confirmed the departures of forward Rasmus Hojlund and winger Antony as both players secure moves away from the club. Hojlund has joined Serie A champions Napoli on a season-long loan that includes an obligation for a permanent transfer next summer for £38 million. Meanwhile, Antony has completed a permanent transfer to Real Betis for a fee of £21.65 million, having previously shown promise during a loan spell at the club.

Hojlund, who arrived at United from Atalanta in a £72 million deal in 2023, had a disappointing season, scoring only four league goals. Despite expressing a desire to remain at Old Trafford, he found himself surplus to requirements under manager Ruben Amorim, particularly with new signings bolstering the attack. Hojlund will now aim to revive his career in Italy, where he hopes to make a significant impact.

Antony's move comes after a turbulent period at United, where he struggled to find consistent form. Signed for £81.3 million from Ajax in 2022, the Brazilian managed to score just five goals in 62 Premier League appearances. His transfer to Real Betis follows a successful loan stint, where he contributed significantly to the team's performance. The deal includes a 50% sell-on clause, reflecting the ongoing financial strategies at United.

These transfers mark a significant shift for Manchester United as they continue to reshape their squad, aiming for a more competitive outlook in the Premier League and beyond. Additionally, United has sent teenage left-back Harry Amass on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, further emphasizing their focus on player development and strategic squad management.
