Omar Marmoush: Manchester City to Assess Forward After Knee Injury on International Duty
Posted on September 10, 2025
Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush is set to undergo assessment for a knee injury sustained while playing for Egypt during a World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso. The 26-year-old was substituted just nine minutes into the match, which ended in a goalless draw, after suffering a bruised knee ligament from a robust challenge in the fourth minute. Despite receiving treatment on the pitch, he was unable to continue and was replaced by Osama Faisal shortly after.
Marmoush, who joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million in January, has made a notable impact since his arrival, scoring eight goals in 28 appearances for the club. His recent performances include starting in City's last two Premier League matches, although the team faced defeats against Tottenham and Brighton. With the Manchester derby against rivals Manchester United approaching on Sunday, City’s medical staff will evaluate Marmoush upon his return to England to determine the extent of his injury and whether he will be available for selection.
The Egyptian Football Association confirmed the injury via social media, stating that Marmoush would undergo an X-ray upon returning to Cairo. As the City squad prepares for the high-stakes clash, the team's management will be keen to assess the forward's condition to make informed decisions ahead of the derby.
