Andre Onana Joins Trabzonspor on Loan from Manchester United
Posted on September 12, 2025
Andre Onana has officially signed with Turkish club Trabzonspor on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. This transfer comes just before the closure of the transfer window in Turkey and follows a challenging start to the season for the Cameroonian goalkeeper, who did not feature in Manchester United's opening three Premier League matches.
Manchester United announced the move, wishing Onana well as he embarks on this new chapter in his career. The loan deal is subject to international clearance and registration, allowing him to continue his development after a difficult period at Old Trafford. Onana's only appearance for United this season occurred during a surprising Carabao Cup exit against League Two side Grimsby Town.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper was brought to Manchester United from Inter Milan in July 2023 for £47.2 million, intended to replace long-time number one David de Gea. During his time with United, he made a total of 102 appearances, contributing to the team's FA Cup triumph in 2024. However, his tenure was marred by inconsistent performances and mistakes, which led to the club signing Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day. With Lammens now joining Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton, Trabzonspor's head coach Ruben Amorim has a diverse selection of goalkeeping options as they prepare for their upcoming matches, including a Premier League clash against Manchester City.
