Sheffield United Reappoint Chris Wilder After Ruben Selles' Departure
Posted on September 16, 2025
Sheffield United has reappointed Chris Wilder as their manager just three months after he left the club. Wilder, who previously managed the Blades, returns to Bramall Lane following the sacking of Ruben Selles, who struggled to secure results during his tenure. Under Selles, Sheffield United found themselves at the bottom of the Championship, having lost all five league matches this season and scoring only one goal.
The club's board felt it necessary to make a managerial change in light of the poor start, aiming to stabilize performances and push for promotion. In a statement, they expressed confidence in Wilder's proven leadership and deep understanding of the club, emphasizing their belief that he can restore momentum and unite both the squad and supporters.
Wilder’s return marks his third spell in charge of Sheffield United, having previously led the team to significant success, including promotion from League One to the Premier League. His first stint saw the Blades rise through the leagues, and he most recently managed the club to a playoff final, although they narrowly missed out on promotion.
Wilder will be tasked with reviving the team's fortunes, starting with their home game against Charlton. He brings with him familiarity with the squad, having recruited many of the current players during his previous management. As he prepares to take charge again, the fanbase is hopeful that his leadership can quickly turn around the club's fortunes after a challenging start to the season.
