Jude Bellingham Included in Real Madrid Squad for Champions League Opener Against Marseille

Posted on September 16, 2025

Jude Bellingham has made a timely return to the Real Madrid squad for their opening Champions League match against Marseille, following a lengthy recovery from shoulder surgery. The 22-year-old midfielder had not featured since the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer, where he was dealing with a persistent shoulder issue that began with a dislocation during a match against Rayo Vallecano in 2023.

Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund for £115 million two years ago, has been a key player for the team, helping them secure both the La Liga title and the Champions League in his first season. In 43 appearances during that season, he scored an impressive 23 goals. Last season, he contributed 15 goals in 58 games, although the team faced disappointment as they lost the league title to Barcelona and were eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

Alongside Bellingham, fellow England international Trent Alexander-Arnold has also been named in the squad. Alexander-Arnold had limited playing time recently but was featured in Real Madrid's recent victory over Real Sociedad. Coach Xabi Alonso emphasized the importance of experienced players like Dani Carvajal, who has recently recovered from injury and is seen as a crucial leader within the squad.

As Bellingham returns to action, fans and teammates alike are eager to see how his presence will boost Real Madrid's chances in this season's Champions League campaign, starting with their clash against the Ligue 1 side.
