Nottingham Forest's EFL Cup Exit Blamed on Complacency, Says Ange Postecoglou
Posted on September 18, 2025
Nottingham Forest's manager Ange Postecoglou expressed disappointment after his team suffered a shocking 3-2 defeat to Championship side Swansea City in the EFL Cup. Despite taking a commanding lead with two first-half goals from Igor Jesus, Forest's players became "too comfortable," allowing Swansea to stage a dramatic comeback with two goals in stoppage time.
Postecoglou noted that his side had ample opportunities to secure the win but failed to capitalize on them. He lamented that the players did not heed the warning signs as Swansea clawed back into the match, emphasizing that they let a great opportunity slip away. "We had to finish them off and we had plenty of opportunities to do that," he remarked after the match.
The defeat marked the second consecutive game under Postecoglou where Forest conceded three goals. While he acknowledged some promising performances from his players, he stressed that such positives are overshadowed by the disappointment of exiting the cup competition. He stated, "We should have seen it out better than we did... ultimately the overriding factor is that we're out of the cup when we really should have progressed."
As Forest prepares for their upcoming Premier League match against Burnley, Postecoglou is focused on creating a successful environment for the club. Despite the setback, he remains committed to improving the team's performances and addressing the issues highlighted by this unexpected loss.
