Erling Haaland Breaks Records in Manchester City's 2-0 Win Over Napoli
Posted on September 19, 2025
Erling Haaland continued his remarkable scoring spree by netting his 50th UEFA Champions League goal in Manchester City's 2-0 victory against Napoli. This milestone makes him the fastest player to reach this number, achieving the feat in just 49 matches, far surpassing the previous record held by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took 62 games to reach the same mark.
Haaland's first goal came from a well-placed header off a delightful pass from Phil Foden. His performance not only secured the win for City but also highlighted his extraordinary talent. Foden praised Haaland, stating, "He seems to break every record going. It's unheard of what he's doing. What an unbelievable player."
With this latest achievement, Haaland has now scored 27 goals for Manchester City, 15 for Borussia Dortmund, and 8 for RB Salzburg in the Champions League. His unique scoring ability has propelled him to 90 goals in 101 Premier League matches, and he recently scored five goals for Norway in a match against Moldova. City manager Pep Guardiola emphasized Haaland's exceptional capabilities, noting, "We are lucky to have him," and compared him to legendary scorers like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
As Haaland continues to perform at this level, speculation grows about his potential to eventually surpass Ronaldo's all-time Champions League record of 141 goals. Guardiola believes this is a possibility if Haaland maintains his fitness and form, suggesting, "In that rhythm, yeah. He's not injured, he could play for 10 or 12 more years."
With each match, Haaland solidifies his reputation as one of the most prolific strikers in football history, leaving fans and pundits alike eagerly anticipating what he will achieve next.
