Ousmane Dembele Wins Ballon d'Or Following Impressive PSG Season

Posted on September 23, 2025

Ousmane Dembele has been awarded the prestigious Ballon d'Or after a standout season with Paris Saint-Germain, where he played a crucial role in the team's treble-winning campaign. This marks the 28-year-old French forward's first Ballon d'Or win, solidifying his place among football's elite after scoring 35 goals and providing 14 assists in 53 appearances last season.

Dembele's stellar performance included being the joint top scorer in Ligue 1, netting 21 goals, and earning accolades as both the French top flight and Champions League Player of the Year. His contributions were pivotal as PSG clinched the Champions League title, the league title, and the French Cup, further enhancing his reputation. However, Dembele's journey to this accolade was not without its challenges, as he has faced injuries that kept him sidelined during crucial matches, including a recent defeat to Marseille.

During the ceremony in Paris, Dembele was visibly emotional as he accepted the award, expressing gratitude towards his family, teammates, and PSG’s management, particularly praising club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi for his support. "What I have just experienced is exceptional," Dembele said, highlighting the significance of receiving the award from football legend Ronaldinho.

The Ballon d'Or win caps off a remarkable revival in Dembele’s career, particularly after struggling to maintain consistent form in previous seasons. His transformation can be attributed in part to PSG manager Luis Enrique, who shifted Dembele to a central forward role in December, resulting in an impressive scoring streak that saw him net 30 goals in the latter half of the season.

Dembele's recognition as the best player in the world comes as part of a strong showing for PSG at the awards, with the club also being named Team of the Year. Additionally, Dembele's win places him among a select group of French players to receive the Ballon d'Or, making him only the second Frenchman of the 21st century to achieve this honor after Karim Benzema in 2022.

The ceremony also featured notable performances from other players, including Lamine Yamal, who finished as the runner-up and won the Kopa Trophy for the best young player, showcasing the depth of talent emerging in football today.
