Manchester City Defeats Huddersfield 2-0 in Carabao Cup

Posted on September 25, 2025

Manchester City advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at the Accu Stadium. The match featured a standout performance from Phil Foden, who scored the opening goal and assisted the second, showcasing his return to form.

City took control early with Foden finding the net in the 18th minute. After a clever interplay with Divine Mukasa, who filled in for the absent Erling Haaland, Foden curled a precise shot from outside the box into the bottom corner, giving City a deserved lead. Despite dominating possession, City struggled to create clear chances and had to wait until the 74th minute to secure their second goal.

Savinho, making his first start of the season, doubled the advantage with a powerful shot that hit the crossbar before crossing the line, following an assist from Foden. This goal effectively sealed the match for City, who maintained their composure throughout.

Huddersfield, currently in League One, put up a commendable fight against their Premier League opponents, creating some opportunities but ultimately failing to convert. Their best chance came late in the match when Cameron Ashia's shot hit the post, denying them a consolation goal.

City's manager, Pep Guardiola, praised his team's performance, highlighting the importance of the victory and the "spirit" returning to the squad. Meanwhile, Huddersfield's head coach, Lee Grant, expressed pride in his team's effort, noting that they managed to limit City's chances despite the loss.

With this win, Manchester City will face Championship side Swansea City in the next round of the Carabao Cup, while Huddersfield will look to regroup for their league campaign ahead.
