Jordan Henderson Reflects on "Tough Moments" After Saudi Arabia Move
Posted on October 08, 2025
Jordan Henderson has opened up about the challenges he faced after leaving Liverpool to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq. The England midfielder, now playing for Brentford, acknowledged that his decision to move to a country with strict laws against same-sex relationships was met with significant criticism, particularly given his previous support for LGBTQ+ rights.
In a recent interview, Henderson expressed regret over his choice, admitting that he could have "made different decisions." He described his departure from Liverpool as emotionally difficult, likening it to a breakup. Henderson stated, "I have had some tough moments... I'm not perfect and I've made mistakes in the past," reflecting on the backlash he received after making the transfer. Despite these challenges, he emphasized that his decision was made for various personal reasons, which he feels only he fully understands.
Now back in the Premier League with Brentford and included in the England squad under manager Thomas Tuchel, Henderson is eager to demonstrate his value on the pitch. He dismissed the notion that his presence is merely that of a "cheerleader," asserting that he still has much to contribute to his team. As he prepares for upcoming matches against Wales and Latvia, Henderson remains focused on moving forward in his career, acknowledging the lessons learned from his past experiences.
