Harry Kane to Miss Wales Friendly Due to Ankle Injury

Posted on October 09, 2025

England captain Harry Kane will be sidelined for the upcoming friendly match against Wales due to a minor ankle injury. The 32-year-old forward sustained the injury during Bayern Munich's recent 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, which prevented him from participating in training sessions ahead of the match.

Manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Kane is experiencing too much pain to kick the ball effectively, leading to the decision to rest him for the friendly. However, there is optimism that Kane will recover in time for England's World Cup qualifier against Latvia next Tuesday. Tuchel expressed confidence in Kane's ability to bounce back, stating, "We give him the chance for it to calm down and we are convinced he will be ready for Latvia."

In Kane's absence, one of the team's experienced players, such as Jordan Henderson, John Stones, or Declan Rice, will step in as captain for the match at Wembley. Kane's impressive record of 74 goals in 109 caps for England underscores his importance to the squad, as he has consistently been a key figure in their offensive strategy.

Despite the friendly being a less critical match, Kane's injury highlights England's reliance on their star striker. The squad will need to adapt, and options such as Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, and Newcastle's Anthony Gordon are being considered to fill the gap left by Kane.

As England prepares to face Wales for the first time since their 3-0 win at the World Cup in 2022, the team remains hopeful for a successful outcome, even without their captain leading the line.
