Frenkie de Jong Signs Contract Extension with Barcelona Until 2029
Posted on October 16, 2025
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has officially extended his contract with the club, committing his future to the Catalan giants until 2029. Since joining Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for a reported fee of €75 million, De Jong has established himself as a crucial player in the squad, contributing to the team’s success by winning six trophies, including two La Liga titles.
The renewal of De Jong's contract had been delayed due to complications involving his former agent, Ali Dursun. However, negotiations have now successfully concluded under his new representative, Sebastian Ledure. De Jong signed the contract extension in the presence of Barcelona president Joan Laporta and director of football Deco, among other club officials.
In reflecting on his extension, De Jong expressed his desire to remain at Barcelona for as long as possible, stating, "As I've always said, since I was a child, I dreamed of playing for Barcelona — and now that I'm living this dream, I want to stay here as long as possible and win many titles with this club." He highlighted his ambition to secure the UEFA Champions League title, which has yet to elude him during his time at the club, alongside a focus on winning more league championships and cups.
Praise was also directed towards Barcelona's head coach Hansi Flick, with De Jong emphasizing their strong relationship and Flick's belief in his abilities. The midfielder is committed to continuous improvement and hard work as he aims to contribute to Barcelona's success.
Looking ahead, De Jong and his teammates are preparing for their next La Liga match against Girona on October 18 at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, where they will aim to build on their current form and pursue more silverware.
