Aitana Bonmatí Out with Broken Leg Following Training Incident
Posted on December 01, 2025
Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatí is set to face a significant spell on the sidelines after sustaining a broken leg during a training session. The injury occurred when the 27-year-old fell awkwardly at the national team's training base in Las Rozas, Madrid, on Sunday. This incident comes as Spain prepares for the second leg of their UEFA Women's Nations League final against Germany, scheduled for December 2.
Bonmatí had previously played 77 minutes in the first leg, which ended in a goalless draw in Kaiserslautern. After undergoing medical tests, the Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed her diagnosis of a fracture in her left fibula. The talented midfielder will now return to Barcelona to begin her rehabilitation.
This setback comes at a disappointing time for Bonmatí, who has enjoyed a remarkable year. She made history by becoming the first player to win the women's Ballon d'Or three times, contributed to Barcelona's domestic treble, and played a key role in leading Spain to the Euro 2025 final. Additionally, she was named the UEFA Champions League's player of the season.
Bonmatí's absence will be felt not only by Barcelona but also by the Spanish national team as they look to secure victory in the upcoming final against Germany.
