In the U23 Asian Cup third-place match, Iraq secured the last Olympic spot in the Asian region by defeating Indonesia 2-1 in extra time. They will now join Japan and Uzbekistan in the Olympic main event.
In the earlier semifinals, Japan and Uzbekistan had already secured their Olympic berths by defeating Indonesia and Iraq, respectively. With Iraq's victory in the third-place match, they clinched the final Olympic spot in the Asian region, catching the last train. Although Indonesia lost the match, they still have a chance to compete for the final Olympic spot through a playoff against Guinea, the fourth-placed team in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations. The playoff will take place in France on May 9th.
Meanwhile, Iraq has been drawn into Group B alongside Argentina, Morocco, and Ukraine. They will compete in the Olympic main event from July 24th to 30th in Lyon and Saint-Étienne.
