Carlos Tevez wins league for Boca Juniors against River Plate

Posted on March 09, 2020

A former favourite on both sides of the divide in Manchester, 36-year-old Carlos Tevez proved he’s still a force to be reckoned with on derby weekend.

Tevez’s fierce drive from 20 yards in the 72nd minute was too hot to handle and helped Boca Juniors to a 1-0 win over Gimnasia y Esgrima, according to professional football data provider iSports API.

The victory at La Bombonera, coupled with River Plate’s 1-1 draw at Atletico Tucuman, meant Boca claimed the Superliga Argentina title by a single point over their fiercest rivals.

Tevez joined Manchester United in August 2007 and helped the Red Devils win the Premier League and Champions League double in his first season at Old Trafford, as per iSports livescore API.

He then helped the Red Devils retain the league title the following season before taking the unusual step of moving across to the blue half of the city.

The dynamic striker spent four seasons at the Etihad.

With the iSports API football data refernce, despite a falling out with City manager Roberto Mancini, Tevez played a major role in the run-in as the Citizens won their breakthrough Premier League title in 2012.
