Steph Curry Makes Old-Man NBA History Against Klay Thompson

Posted on November 13, 2024

Klay Thompson made his highly anticipated return to the Bay Area on Tuesday night as the Dallas Mavericks fell to Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors 120-117 on the opening day of the NBA Cup.

Both "Splash Brothers" duked it out with top-tier performances. Curry finished the night with a game-high 37 points on 14-of-27 shooting, including 12 points in the final three minutes and ten seconds of action, six rebounds and nine assists.

Meanwhile, Thompson, in his return, had one of his better games in the young 2024-25 season, recording a season-high 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting and 6-of-12 from distance, four rebounds and three assists.

According to StatMamba on X, with Curry scoring over 30 points against the Mavs, the 36-year-old star has now become the oldest point guard in NBA history to record back-to-back 30+ point games.

Curry accomplished this latest feat against two of the top contenders in the Western Conference. On Sunday, when the Warriors faced the Oklahoma City Thunder, the former Davidson Wildcats star scored 36 points and hit seven three-pointers.

The dynamic Warriors trio of Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green will go down as one of the best in NBA history. During their 13-year run together in Golden State, the three stars created a historic dynasty, bringing the team four championships along the way.

The Warriors now sit at 9-2 on the season and are in a three-way tie with the Thunder and Phoenix Suns for first place in the West. On the other hand, the Mavericks, despite making the NBA Finals last season, have fallen to 5-6 and sit outside of the playoffs for the time being.

Curry and Thompson will battle it out two more times this season, with the next coming on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Dallas.
