Jaden Ivey Undergoes Surgery for Broken Fibula, Out at Least Four Weeks

Posted on January 03, 2025

Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey is set to miss at least four weeks following surgery to repair a broken fibula, the team announced. The injury occurred during a game against the Orlando Magic, where Ivey had an impressive performance, scoring a team-high 22 points along with four assists before being stretchered off the court after a collision with Cole Anthony. The diagnosis of a broken fibula was first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania.

The 22-year-old Ivey took to social media after the incident, expressing his determination to return stronger than ever, stating, "I promise to come back even better. The recovery starts now." His teammates and coaching staff have shown concern for Ivey, with Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff highlighting the impact of the injury on the team and praising Ivey's character and dedication. Magic guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope also expressed his sympathy, noting the unfortunate timing of the injury as Ivey was playing exceptionally well.

This setback comes as Ivey was finding his rhythm in the NBA, averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.0 assists over 30 games this season. His shooting percentages had also seen significant improvement, making it a promising year for the young player. With the Pistons already surpassing their total wins from the previous season, Ivey's injury poses a challenge as the team looks to build on their progress. As he focuses on recovery, the Pistons will be looking ahead to the 2025-26 season when Ivey is expected to return.
