Bucks Consider Trade to Enhance Roster with Daniel Gafford

Posted on January 13, 2025

In a proposed trade scenario, the Milwaukee Bucks are considering a significant shakeup by swapping their $48 million NBA champion for Daniel Gafford from the Dallas Mavericks. This potential deal comes at a crucial time for both teams, as the Bucks aim to bolster their championship odds while the Mavericks navigate injuries to their star players, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

The trade proposal suggests that the Bucks would acquire Gafford, along with Dante Exum and Markieff Morris, while sending Bobby Portis, AJ Johnson, MarJon Beauchamp, and future draft picks to Dallas. Gafford has been impressive this season, averaging a career-high 11.4 points per game and serving as a robust rim protector. His addition to the Bucks would provide a much-needed complement to veteran center Brook Lopez, enhancing their interior presence.

For the Mavericks, Portis would be a valuable addition, providing immediate scoring power to help offset the absence of Doncic and Irving. The deal also includes unproven talents like Johnson and Beauchamp, along with draft capital, which could be attractive to Dallas as they explore options for the future. While the Bucks look to maintain their competitive edge, the Mavericks are in a position to tread water until their stars return to full health.
