Pacers Fans File Lawsuit Against Patrick Beverley and Bucks Following Playoff Incident
Posted on February 26, 2025
In a surprising turn of events, two Indiana Pacers fans have filed a lawsuit against former NBA player Patrick Beverley and the Milwaukee Bucks after an altercation during Game 6 of their first-round playoff series in 2024. The incident occurred when Beverley threw a basketball into the stands, striking a female fan in the head. The fans claim they suffered “physical pain,” emotional distress, and other damages, including medical expenses and lost wages, as a result of the incident.
The altercation gained attention as it unfolded at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where Beverley was seen engaging with fans behind the bench before the incident occurred. Although he was not ejected from the game, he did not return afterward. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department conducted an investigation, but no criminal charges were filed against Beverley. However, the NBA took disciplinary action, suspending him for four games without pay for his actions during the incident and his subsequent remarks to an ESPN reporter.
Following the incident, Beverley publicly expressed regret, acknowledging that his reaction was inappropriate, regardless of the comments made by fans. He stated on his podcast, "What I did was bad and should have never happened. I have to be better." Despite signing with Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel shortly after the playoffs, his suspension remains in effect should he decide to return to the NBA in the future. The lawsuit by the fans adds a new layer to the narrative surrounding the altercation, highlighting the ongoing implications of player-fan interactions in professional sports.
