Jericho Sims Undergoes Thumb Surgery, Aiming for Playoff Return

Posted on March 18, 2025

Milwaukee Bucks center Jericho Sims underwent successful surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb, as announced by the team. The procedure took place on Monday morning, and Sims is projected to miss approximately four weeks. However, the Bucks remain optimistic, stating that he is "likely" to return in time for the playoffs.

Sims sustained the injury during his first play in a recent game against the Indiana Pacers. Although he managed to play through the discomfort in a subsequent game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the severity of the injury led to the decision for surgery. Prior to the operation, Sims had been playing a significant role for the Bucks, especially after being acquired from the New York Knicks at the trade deadline. His contributions included averaging 2.4 points and 4.9 rebounds over 14 games.

The surgery was conducted by Dr. Michelle Carlson in New York as the Bucks prepared for their longest road trip of the season. With the team set to face the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night, Sims' absence will be felt as he has become an essential part of the Bucks' frontcourt rotation, particularly during Bobby Portis's 25-game suspension. The Bucks are hopeful that Sims will be back on the court as they gear up for the playoffs.
