NBA Considers Reviving 'NBA Inside Stuff' Highlight Show

Posted on March 20, 2025

The NBA is reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing back its beloved highlight show, "NBA Inside Stuff." On Monday, the league filed trademark applications for the show, which originally aired from 1990 to 2006 on NBC and ABC, with a brief revival on NBA TV from 2013 to 2016. Sources indicate that NBC is looking at a "refreshed version" of the program, potentially to coincide with its return to broadcasting live NBA games next season after a long absence since 2002.

The original "NBA Inside Stuff," hosted by Ahmad Rashad, was famous for its behind-the-scenes access to players and featured entertaining segments like "Rewind," where Rashad would exuberantly announce the days of the week. The recent trademark filings suggest the NBA intends to utilize the "NBA Inside Stuff" name for a television show and possibly to develop branded merchandise. Notably, the term "television" in this context may not be limited to traditional broadcasting but could include platforms like YouTube or TikTok.

With the NBA's recent $76 billion media rights deal with major companies such as The Walt Disney Company and NBCUniversal set to begin next season, reviving "NBA Inside Stuff" could tap into nostalgia and engage a new generation of fans. The league's ongoing interest in the show highlights its potential as valuable intellectual property in the current media landscape, with hopes of licensing it to media partners.
