NBA Announces 2024/25 All-Defensive Teams
Posted on May 23, 2025
The NBA has officially revealed its All-Defensive Teams for the 2024/25 season, with selections made by a panel of 100 media members. Players receive two points for a First Team vote and one point for a Second Team vote. This year, there were no unanimous First Team selections, but Evan Mobley, the Defensive Player of the Year, came close, earning 99 votes for the First Team and one for the Second Team, totaling 199 points.
The First Team consists of:
- Evan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers (199 points)
- Dyson Daniels, Atlanta Hawks (191 points)
- Luguentz Dort, Oklahoma City Thunder (180 points)
- Draymond Green, Golden State Warriors (179 points)
- Amen Thompson, Houston Rockets (171 points)
The Second Team features:
- Ivica Zubac, Los Angeles Clippers (114 points)
- Jaren Jackson Jr., Memphis Grizzlies (107 points)
- Jalen Williams, Oklahoma City Thunder (79 points)
- Toumani Camara, Portland Trail Blazers (74 points)
- Rudy Gobert, Minnesota Timberwolves (65 points)
This season marks a notable change in voting rules, as the NBA adjusted criteria to allow for positionless ballots, moving away from the traditional structure of two guards, two forwards, and one center. Despite this change, the teams maintain a balanced composition, with several players serving as defensive anchors for their respective franchises.
Draymond Green, making his ninth appearance on an All-Defensive team, and Rudy Gobert, who has earned the honor eight times, highlight the experience among the honorees. Meanwhile, newcomers to the All-Defensive teams this year include Dyson Daniels, Luguentz Dort, Amen Thompson, Ivica Zubac, Jalen Williams, and Toumani Camara.
Among those who narrowly missed the cut, OG Anunoby of the New York Knicks received notable recognition, making the First Team on two ballots and the Second Team on 45, totaling 49 points. Additionally, other players received votes but did not accumulate enough points to be recognized on the teams.
The announcement of the All-Defensive Teams not only celebrates the defensive efforts of these players but also sets the stage for discussions around individual accolades, including the potential for future awards and recognitions as the season progresses.
