Mavericks Eye Potential Trades for Chris Paul, Lonzo Ball, and Jrue Holiday
Posted on May 27, 2025
The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly targeting several prominent guards this offseason, including Chris Paul, Lonzo Ball, and Jrue Holiday, as they look to bolster their roster. NBA insider Marc Stein has indicated that the Mavericks may explore a trade with the Boston Celtics for Holiday, who has three years and approximately $104 million remaining on his contract.
Paul, who recently completed the 2024-25 season with the San Antonio Spurs, is set to become a free agent, making him a potentially cheaper option for the Mavericks. Despite being the second-oldest player in the league, he started all 82 games for the Spurs, averaging 8.8 points and 7.4 assists per game. His veteran presence could be invaluable for the Mavericks, particularly as they await the return of Kyrie Irving and look to integrate new talent like Cooper Flagg, likely to be selected in the upcoming draft.
Lonzo Ball presents another option for the Mavericks as he is viewed as a tradeable asset. Scheduled to earn $10 million next season, with a similar team option for 2026-27, Ball's affordability might attract the Mavericks; however, concerns remain about his injury history, as he missed two full seasons and played only 35 games this past season, averaging 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.
Jrue Holiday, while a strong player known for his scoring and defense, poses a challenge due to his substantial contract, which might limit the Mavericks' flexibility in trades. At 35, he continues to be one of the top perimeter defenders in the league, contributing 11.1 points and over a steal per game this season.
As the Mavericks navigate potential trades, they aim to construct a championship-caliber team. The interest in these guards reflects their strategy to strengthen the backcourt and enhance their overall performance ahead of the next NBA season.
