LeBron James and Lakers Have No Trade Discussions, Says Rich Paul
Posted on July 01, 2025
Rich Paul, the agent for LeBron James, confirmed that there have been no discussions regarding a potential trade for the superstar forward amid ongoing rumors about his future with the Los Angeles Lakers. Paul addressed these speculations during an interview, emphasizing that both LeBron and the Lakers are focused on building a competitive roster for the upcoming season.
According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Paul stated, "There has been no trade discussions, there have been no trade talks with the Lakers." This clarification comes in response to speculation about James potentially being interested in other teams, with suggestions that he might evaluate the Lakers' moves during the offseason to ensure they remain title contenders.
LeBron recently exercised his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 season, solidifying his commitment to the Lakers for another year. Paul reiterated that while James is keen to compete for championships, he values the partnership he has with the organization, led by Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka.
Despite James's potential to elevate several teams' championship aspirations, sources indicate that there isn't a strong market for him this offseason due to his significant salary cap hit. The Lakers appear to be focused on enhancing their competitiveness in the Western Conference, showing interest in veteran players like Brook Lopez and being linked to Deandre Ayton.
As the offseason progresses, the Lakers will be looking to build on their successful 50-32 record from the previous season, with LeBron keeping a close watch on roster developments. However, as of now, no active trade discussions involving the 21-time All-Star are taking place.
