Milton joined the Lakers after spending time with the Brooklyn Nets, and he was initially drafted as the 54th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft following a successful college career. His performance peaked during his third season with the Philadelphia 76ers when he averaged 13.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.

The Lakers are now focusing on restructuring their roster to accommodate Smart, whose acquisition is seen as a strategic move to bolster their lineup. Following a playoff exit in the first round against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the team is looking to improve its chances in the upcoming season.
