Chris Paul Returns to LA Clippers, Calls Move a “No-Brainer”

Posted on July 29, 2025

Chris Paul has officially rejoined the LA Clippers, marking his return to the franchise after an eight-year absence. The veteran point guard, now 40, expressed his excitement during a reintroduction event where fans welcomed him back with enthusiastic chants. Paul, who previously played for the Clippers from 2011 to 2017, described his decision to return as a "no-brainer," motivated not only by a desire to play for the team where he became an All-Star but also to be closer to his family.

During a press conference at the Intuit Dome, Paul donned the familiar No. 3 jersey, updated with a modern design. He revealed that his personal circumstances played a significant role in his decision, stating he wanted to be closer to his wife and children after spending years playing in various cities. “It was a no-brainer,” he said, emphasizing his eagerness to rejoin the team.

Paul's return comes on the heels of a one-year, $3.6 million veteran minimum contract, as he prepares for his 21st season in the NBA. Although he enjoyed a solid season with the San Antonio Spurs, where he played all 82 games and averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 assists, his role with the Clippers may differ due to the team's depth. With stars like James Harden and Bradley Beal joining the roster, Paul acknowledged he may not need to carry as heavy a load.

The future Hall of Famer has maintained a strong relationship with Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, keeping in touch during his time away from the team. Paul expressed enthusiasm about the potential of the current roster, citing the talent and depth as reasons for optimism. He mentioned his excitement about reuniting with familiar faces, including coach Tyronn Lue and former teammate Harden.

As Paul steps back into a competitive environment with championship aspirations, he aims to contribute to the Clippers' success while embracing the leadership role expected of him. “I’m going to come out every single night, whatever that looks like, and try to make sure I show up for the team,” he stated, signaling his commitment to the franchise and its goals.
