Danilo Gallinari Eyes NBA Comeback After Brief Hiatus

Posted on August 26, 2025

Former NBA forward Danilo Gallinari is reportedly considering a comeback to the league after previously retiring in 2024. The 36-year-old sharpshooter, who had a notable career including a $45 million contract with the Denver Nuggets, expressed his openness to returning as a veteran presence for any interested team. Gallinari indicated that he wouldn't expect to play significant minutes but could provide valuable experience and leadership on the court.

Gallinari, who had a successful tenure with the Nuggets, was part of a significant three-team trade in 2011 that ultimately helped shape his career. Over his 14 seasons in the NBA, he averaged 14.9 points per game with solid shooting percentages. However, he faced setbacks due to injuries, including missing entire seasons with ACL tears.

In his most recent stint, Gallinari played for the Puerto Rican team Vaqueros de Bayamon, where he earned a championship title and Finals MVP honors. While he acknowledges the challenges of returning to the NBA, he remains hopeful about finding a team that could use his skills. Gallinari emphasized that any decision to return would depend on being wanted by a franchise, hinting at the complicated nature of re-entering the league at this stage of his career.

As the NBA season approaches, it remains to be seen whether Gallinari will receive an opportunity to prove himself again on the professional stage, but his name certainly adds intrigue to the upcoming roster discussions.
