Michael Jordan Once Identified Kobe Bryant and Grant Hill as Potential Successors
Posted on September 09, 2025
As Michael Jordan approached the twilight of his NBA career, he acknowledged his unparalleled legacy as the league's face and one of the greatest players ever. Recognizing the challenge of being replaced, Jordan named two young stars, Kobe Bryant and Grant Hill, as possible successors who could eventually carry the league’s mantle. He admired their athleticism, explosiveness, and charisma, qualities reminiscent of his own.
However, both Bryant and Hill were reluctant to be seen as the "next Jordan," preferring to carve their own identities rather than live under constant comparison. Jordan reflected on the immense responsibility of being a positive role model in the public eye, noting that while others could share the burden, much of it remained on him.
To date, no player has truly matched Jordan’s achievements, including his record 10 scoring titles and undefeated 6-0 NBA Finals record. Jordan also stands as one of only three players to win both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season, underscoring his unique impact on the game.
