Mo Bamba's NBA Contract Journey: A Look at His Career Moves

Posted on September 26, 2025

Mo Bamba is set to embark on a new chapter in his NBA career after signing a deal with the Utah Jazz ahead of the 2025-2026 season. While specific details of the contract remain undisclosed, this opportunity comes in the wake of a varied and tumultuous contract history for the former sixth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Bamba's journey began with the Orlando Magic, where he signed a rookie scale contract that spanned four seasons. During this period, he displayed glimpses of potential, averaging 6.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in his early years. However, it wasn't until his fourth season that he became a more prominent figure, starting in 69 games and averaging 10.6 points and 8.1 rebounds.

After his time with the Magic, Bamba's career took a turn with a veteran contract that initially saw him remain with Orlando before moving to the Los Angeles Lakers. In the 2022-2023 season, he had a $10.3 million deal, but his role diminished as he faced competition for playing time. The Lakers acquired him in a trade, hoping he could bolster their playoff run, but he managed limited impact, prompting the team to waive him just a few months later.

Bamba then signed with the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2023-2024 season, where he played 57 games, including 17 starts, averaging 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds. His stint there ended as he chose to enter free agency, seeking a fresh start.

The 2024-2025 season saw him join the Los Angeles Clippers, but injuries limited his effectiveness, and he was subsequently waived after making 28 appearances. Following a brief 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, which yielded only four games, Bamba found himself looking for yet another opportunity.

With his recent signing with the Jazz, Bamba is eager to revive his career and make a significant impact. Throughout his seven seasons in the NBA, he has averaged 6.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks, showcasing his potential as a versatile center. As he prepares for this new chapter, Bamba aims to harness his skills and experience to contribute to the Jazz as they seek to strengthen their roster.
