Pacers Sign Dunk Champion Mac McClung, Release James Wiseman

Posted on October 28, 2025

The Indiana Pacers have made a significant roster move by signing guard Mac McClung to a multiyear contract, marking his first standard NBA deal. McClung, known for his explosive dunks and as the first three-time champion of the NBA dunk contest, previously spent time with the Orlando Magic and has participated in six NBA games since 2021.

To make room for McClung, the Pacers have decided to waive former No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman. Wiseman, who recently returned to play after recovering from an Achilles injury that sidelined him for much of last season, started in a recent game against the Memphis Grizzlies but only managed to play 20 minutes.

With several key players dealing with injuries, including guards Andrew Nembhard, Bennedict Mathurin, and Obi Toppin, the Pacers are looking to bolster their depth. Point guard T.J. McConnell is also recovering from a hamstring injury, and star player Tyrese Haliburton is out for the season due to his own Achilles tear.

The signing of McClung is seen as a strategic move to enhance the team's performance as they navigate through a challenging start to the season. His dynamic playing style and scoring ability could provide much-needed support as the Pacers aim to improve their standings in the competitive Eastern Conference.
