Luka Doncic And Slovenia Begin EuroBasket 2022 Tournament

Posted on September 01, 2022

There are no days off for Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic this summer. Fresh off playing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup European Qualifiers, Doncic and the Slovenian national team will compete in the EuroBasket 2022 tournament beginning September 1.

Slovenia has a 3-1 record since June 30, when Doncic rejoined his compatriots, with their only loss coming at the hands of Germany on August 28. Doncic has led the way for Slovenia, averaging 25 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists.

Doncic will have to maintain or exceed those numbers if Slovenia has eyes on winning EuroBasket. Slovenia will compete in Group B with Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Germany, Hungary and Lithuania.

The French, German and Lithuanian teams have NBA-level talent, including Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, Evan Fournier, Theo Maledon, Rudy Gobert, Franz Wagner, Daniel Theis, Dennis Schroder, Domantas Sabonis and Jonas Valanciunas representing their countries, respectively.

The top four teams in each group—EuroBasket features four groups—will advance to the knockout stage. From there, a single-elimination tournament will determine the eventual champion.

The group stage will take place from September 1 through September 7. The knockout round of 16 begins September 10 and runs through September 18. Slovenia will open EuroBasket play against Lithuania.

Slovenia’s group stage schedule (all times Eastern):

September 1 vs. Lithuania, 11:05 a.m.

September 3 vs. Hungary, 2:20 p.m.

September 4 vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina, 11:35 a.m.

September 6 vs. Germany, 2:20 p.m.

September 7 vs. France, 11:05 a.m.

Slovenia’s group stage games will take place in Cologne, Germany.
