Reporter Names Warriors’ Top Priority After Dwight Howard Decision
Posted on September 23, 2023
The Golden State Warriors invited Dwight Howard for a two-day workout with the team to potentially sign him to a contract.
However, it has been confirmed that the Warriors are no longer interested in signing Howard or any other veteran center ahead of training camp.
Considering the fact that most Warriors fans approved of this move, it was heartbreaking news for them.
But what’s the reason behind the Dubs’ sudden change of heart?
NBA insider Anthony Slater, via Twitter, shared the Warriors’ new priority after moving on from Howard.
The Warriors have shifted their focus to signing another wing player.
It’s a rather shocking decision, considering their roster is thin at the center position.
Adding a rim-protecting big man could have helped the Warriors bolster their defense and shy away from playing such an offense-heavy game.
But as things stand right now, head coach Steve Kerr and the Warriors are going to run a small starting five once again.
It’s an alarming decision since the Warriors have struggled against traditional big men in the last few seasons.
The Warriors finished the 2022-23 season as the sixth seed in the Western Conference with a 44-38 record.
Considering the Warriors were eliminated quickly last season, the consensus was that the team would add a rim protector to the roster.
Unfortunately, the Warriors have already placed the lid on that path.
They’ll now focus completely on adding more depth to the wing position for the new season.
Can the team make a comeback next season?
