Memphis Grizzlies reveal season-ending knee surgery for Steven Adams
Posted on October 23, 2023
Memphis Grizzlies center Steven Adams has not played since suffering a knee injury while diving for a loose ball on January 22. At the time, expectations were that he’d miss somewhere between three to five weeks. Limited to just 42 games last season, Adams is now set to miss the entire 2023-24 league year too.
The Grizzlies announced Adams will soon undergo surgery to address the posterior cruciate ligament in his injured right knee. Part of the announcement revealed that “non-operative rehabilitation did not resolve ongoing knee instability.”
Adams, 30, is expected to be able to return in time for the 2024-25 season, which will be the final year of his contract.
When the Grizzlies’ starting center got hurt last season, it opened the door for Xavier Tillman to start 29 games, playing a career-high 19.3 minutes per game. Without Adams available, Tillman’s playing time will likely increase again, along with Santi Aldama and Kenny Lofton expected to see more minutes too.
