Injury Report: Bulls Forward Patrick Williams Set To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery On His Left Foot

Posted on February 24, 2024

On Friday, the Chicago Bulls announced their forward Patrick Williams will undergo a season-ending surgery on his left foot, the team said.

As per the Friday announcement, the fourth-year forward, Williams’s surgery is to repair a stress reaction in his foot and is expected to miss the remainder of 2023-24.

The team said,

“Routine subsequent imaging (revealed) the progression of his foot stress reaction.”

He has been sidelined since January 25, initially diagnosed as an acute bonce edema and now imaging revealed the injury worsened to a stress reaction.

Williams had already missed three games in January with foot discomfort and had been in a walking boot, and the Bulls said the injury required “active rest” for at least two weeks.

The injury has been a setback for Williams as he appeared in all 82 games, plus both play-in games, last season. He averaged 10.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 43 games (30 starts) for Chicago this season.

Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune wrote on Feb. 14 about Williams,

“The hope is now that once we get into the tail end of the All-Star break, that he can actually start doing some more things. That’s going to be the real big thing of how did he respond to that. But in terms of his progress of what they’ve been trying to do in terms of calming the foot down and eliminating some of the discomforts he was having while walking, that’s gone. Now the step is, ok, he’s starts running, jogging, cutting. What does that look like?”

Selected as the No. 4 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Florida State, he will become a restricted free agent this summer if Chicago tenders him a $12,973,527 one-year qualifying offer.
