The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent forward Kyle Anderson to a three-year, $27 million contract, as part of a sign-and-trade agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The deal includes a nonguaranteed third year, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Warriors are acquiring Anderson for a future second-round pick swap and cash, per Wojnarowski. Golden State is using a Traded Players Exception — created by the Klay Thompson departure — to add Anderson.

Anderson, 30, spent the past two seasons with the Timberwolves, where he averaged 6.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists in 79 games (10 starts) of the 2023-24 season.

In Minnesota’s 127-120 loss to the eventual NBA champion Boston Celtics on Jan. 10, he posted a season-high 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, one steal, and a block in 39 minutes as a starter.

Although Anderson averaged a career-low total rebound percentage (8.7%), he logged a career-best assist percentage of 25%. He also finished fourth in defensive box plus/minus (2.7) and 12th in defensive rating (109.0) this past season.

Anderson recorded a playoff career-high three steals against the Dallas Mavericks in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals During the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Anderson posted a playoff-high three steals in Minnesota’s 105-100 Game 4 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference finals.

“I think I’m really a point guard in real life, but I’ve just grown to be 6-9, so I think you could throw me out there in a bunch of different positions,” Anderson said after his performance.

“Watching baseball, I used to watch Ben Zobrist. He was able to play so many different positions – infield, outfield, having an impact for big games in Kansas City, Chicago. That was my guy, watching him, so if he could do it, I could do it in the basketball court.”

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound wing was selected 30th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2014 NBA draft out of UCLA. He played his first four seasons (2014-2018) for San Antonio before playing four seasons (2018-2022) with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Furthermore, he averaged a career-high 12.4 points during the 2020-21 season. It was the only time in his 10-year career that he’s averaged over 10 points in a single campaign.

Anderson should help add depth to the Warriors’ frontcourt next season.
