Rudy Gobert hits back at Shaquille O'Neal after basketball icon brutally called him the 'worst NBA player of all-time'

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert clapped back at NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal for naming him the worst NBA player of all time.

In an interview with Complex, the four-time NBA champion gave the 'WOAT' title to the Frenchman, citing how his body of work does not match the price on his contract.

On Thursday, Gobert reposted the clip and came up with a bold response.

'It is sad to see someone that has accomplished as much as you did @SHAQ both in sport and business still be triggered by another man’s finances and accomplishments,' Gobert wrote.

'I get the entertainment part but unlike other folks, you don’t need that stuff to stay relevant,' he added.

While the question was seemingly asked in a joking manner, O'Neal answered with a sincere, straight face. Besides Gobert, Diesel also named Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons as his runner-up for the title.

'Ben Simmons is another bum,' O'Neal claimed. 'Let me tell you why. If you sign a contract for 250 [million], show me 250.'

'There's a reason why I walk funny, why I can't turn my neck - and why I can't do it is because I played for my 120,' O'Neal added. 'So you got guys like [Gobert] that f*** the system over there.

'They're making all this money and they can't f****** play. I don't respect guys like that. Every time I make these comments, people think I'm hating but these are facts.

'You got teachers, you got firemen, you got doctors who have real jobs and don't get paid s***,' he closed.

Entering his 12th season in the NBA, Gobert made three All-Star selections between 2020 and 2022. He also won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award four times and led the league in blocks and rebounds in 2017 and 2022, respectively.

After leaving the Utah Jazz in 2022, Gobert inked a massive five-year max deal worth $205million, putting him in the upper echelons of NBA earnings.
