EX-ROCKETS BIG MAN BOBAN MARJANOVIC JOINS EUROLEAGUE’S FENERBAHCE
Posted on September 18, 2024
Veteran center Boban Marjanovic has left the NBA after nine years to join EuroLeague’s Fenerbahce, according to NBA correspondent Marc Stein.
Marjanovic, who spent the past two seasons with the Houston Rockets, reportedly signed a deal that contains an opt-out in December in case the NBA team comes calling.
After spending the first part of his professional career in Europe, where he played for the likes of CSKA Moscow and Crvena Zvezda, Marjanovic came to the NBA in 2015 by signing a deal with the San Antonio Spurs. After one season in San Antonio, the 7-foot-4 Serbian would go on to play for five other teams, including the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, and Rockets.
Marjanovic had a limited role during his time in the NBA, putting up 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while spending an average of 8.7 minutes on the floor. However, his infectious personality made him a fan favorite wherever he went and made him quite a popular figure on and off the court.
Marjanovic’s personality was on full display during the Rockets’ 104-116 win over the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2023-24 regular-season finale. Being sent to the free throw line, Marjanovic missed the first shot before realizing that the Clippers run a promotion that gives their fans free chicken if an opponent’s player missed two straight free throws.
Marjanovic told the home crowd that the chicken was “on him” before intentionally missing the second free throw.
