Casemiro to Leave Manchester United After Season

Posted on January 23, 2026, updated on January 23, 2026

Manchester United has announced that midfielder Casemiro will depart the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. The Brazilian joined the club from Real Madrid for £70 million in 2022 and has made significant contributions since then, including scoring in the 2023 Carabao Cup final.

Despite his pivotal role, Casemiro has faced criticism, particularly from new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who hinted that some players were "overpaid." In a statement, Casemiro expressed gratitude for his time at United but emphasized that he is focused on maximizing his contributions until his departure.

The decision not to extend his contract aligns with the club's strategy to reduce wages and build a more competitive squad. As Casemiro prepares to leave, Manchester United will focus on securing new talent to enhance their midfield options, while considering players like Elliott Anderson and Adam Wharton for potential signings.

Casemiro’s exit marks the end of a notable chapter, but it also opens the door for new opportunities for United as they aim to strengthen their squad for the future.
