Raheem Sterling Set to Depart Chelsea by End of January Transfer Window
Posted on January 28, 2026, updated on January 28, 2026
Raheem Sterling is expected to leave Chelsea before the January transfer window closes, following ongoing discussions to resolve his long-standing situation at the club. The 31-year-old winger, one of Chelsea's highest earners at £325,000 per week, has not featured for the team since May 2024.
Negotiations are reportedly at an advanced stage, with both Chelsea and Sterling keen to find a resolution. He previously spent the last season on loan at Arsenal but has been training separately from the first team since last summer when a potential move fell through.
With 18 months remaining on his contract, Chelsea could face a financial commitment of £25 million if he stays until the end of his deal in the summer of 2027. Therefore, the club is working towards either arranging a permanent transfer or negotiating a compromise that would allow Sterling to become a free agent.
As his time at Chelsea appears to be coming to an end, Sterling's departure would open up opportunities for the club to focus on rebuilding and reinforcing the squad as they aim to improve their performance in the Premier League.
