Barcelona Fear Hamstring Tear for Yamal After Celta Vigo Win

Posted on April 23, 2026, updated on April 23, 2026

Barcelona fear Lamine Yamal has suffered a torn hamstring after he was forced off immediately after scoring in the win over Celta Vigo. The injury will be assessed with scans, and the size of the tear will determine whether he misses only a few weeks or the rest of the season.

The concern is especially serious because Yamal has been one of Barcelona’s most important players this season. He scored the decisive penalty in Wednesday’s match, then straight away grabbed at his hamstring and asked for treatment before leaving the pitch.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said the club must wait for further tests before knowing the full picture. Midfielder Pedri also urged calm, saying he hoped the 18-year-old would miss only a short spell and recover well.

João Cancelo also went off with a possible muscle problem, adding to Barcelona’s injury worries. That makes the win over Celta feel expensive, even though it took Barça nine points clear of Real Madrid with six league matches left.

Yamal’s possible absence would be a major blow for both club and country. Spain were already expecting him to play a central role at the World Cup, and Barcelona are still trying to finish the league title race without another setback.

He has played 45 matches in all competitions this season, scoring 24 goals and providing 17 assists. With Barcelona also still due to face Real Madrid on May 10, his fitness could become one of the key stories of the run-in.

If the scans confirm a significant tear, Barcelona may have to finish the season without one of their most decisive attackers.
