Gibbs-White's Form Puts Him in England's No. 10 Conversation
Posted on May 06, 2026, updated on May 06, 2026
Morgan Gibbs-White has played his way into serious England discussion, but he is not yet the clear favourite to start as the team’s number 10. His strong run of form for Nottingham Forest has certainly boosted his case, especially with 13 Premier League goals and a surge in contributions since March.
The biggest reason his name is now being taken seriously is simple: he is producing more than most of the other players competing for the same role. Gibbs-White has been one of Forest’s main attacking outlets, and his numbers since the turn of the year are better than those of Cole Palmer, Eberechi Eze, Phil Foden and even several other contenders.
That said, England’s attacking midfield slot is crowded. Jude Bellingham, Eze, Morgan Rogers and Foden are all in the mix, so Gibbs-White is fighting not just for inclusion, but for the right to start in a role that has become one of the most competitive in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
His recent form has come at the right time, because Tuchel does not have a friendly left to test players before naming his World Cup squad. Forest’s remaining league games and Europa League tie with Aston Villa are now Gibbs-White’s final chances to make an argument on the pitch.
There is one complication: his head injury against Chelsea has made his immediate availability uncertain. Forest are hopeful he can recover in time for the semi-final second leg, but he may need “magic” from the medical staff to be ready.
Even with that setback, Gibbs-White has changed the tone of the debate. A player left out of Tuchel’s last squad is now being discussed as a possible first-choice option at the World Cup. He has not locked the role down, but his form has made him impossible to ignore.
If he can return quickly and keep delivering for Forest, his chances will only grow.
