Liverpool's Summer Reset: Slot to Add Reijnen as Alisson Stays and Konate's Future Remains Unclear

Posted on May 26, 2026, updated on May 26, 2026

Liverpool are preparing for a busy summer, with Arne Slot expected to strengthen his coaching staff, Alisson Becker set to stay, and Ibrahima Konate still waiting on clarity over his future. The club is moving into a period of change after a trophyless season and the end of their reign as Premier League champions.

Coaching update

Slot is expected to bring in Etienne Reijnen, his trusted former assistant from Feyenoord, as another addition to his backroom team. Liverpool wanted to add Reijnen in 2024, but the move was blocked at the time because he did not have the necessary work permit.

Reijnen’s arrival would be another sign that Slot is likely to remain in charge despite rumours about his position. Liverpool are also expected to keep assistant Sipke Hulshoff, which would give the Dutch coach more continuity heading into next season.

Attack rebuild

Replacing Mohamed Salah is one of Liverpool’s biggest tasks this summer, and RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is understood to be a leading target. Liverpool do not view anyone as a direct like-for-like replacement, so they are planning a wider reshaping of the attack rather than a single-solution signing.

The club has already added Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak in the forward line, and there is a feeling that they may want another wide attacker as well as perhaps one more central option. Jeremie Frimpong could also offer flexibility further forward if needed.

Alisson likely stays

There has been interest from Juventus in Alisson Becker, but the latest expectation is that he will remain at Anfield. Liverpool had already triggered the 12-month extension in his contract, meaning the Brazilian is set to stay unless the club changes its position.

That gives Liverpool a major piece of stability in goal, even as other parts of the squad shift. Keeping Alisson is especially important with so many other moving parts around the squad.

Konate uncertainty

Ibrahima Konate’s future is still unresolved, and that remains one of Liverpool’s biggest open questions. He has not yet signed a new deal, and while talks were previously thought to be close, there has been no final breakthrough.

Liverpool are also planning for centre-back depth more broadly, with Jeremy Jacquet due to arrive from Rennes and Geovanni Leoni returning from injury. Virgil van Dijk is still at the club, Joe Gomez has a year left on his deal, and there may still be movement in that area if Konate does not commit.

Wider rebuild

Liverpool’s summer looks less like a tweak and more like a careful reset. Salah and Andy Robertson are leaving on free transfers, the squad needs fresh attacking ideas, and Slot appears determined to keep building with familiar staff around him.

The club still has strong foundations, but the next few months will decide whether this becomes a smooth transition or a major reshaping of the team.
