Fernandez Eyes Chelsea Exit as Club Set £120m Price Tag

Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea after the club failed to qualify for Europe, but any exit is likely to be very expensive. Chelsea would demand around £120m for the Argentina midfielder, reflecting both his long contract and his importance to the squad.

Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 for £107m and is tied to the club until 2032, which gives Chelsea major leverage in any negotiations. The World Cup winner is still part of the club’s plans for next season, but senior figures are prepared to listen if a club meets their valuation.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a strong individual season, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists, and he finished runner-up in Chelsea’s player of the season vote. Even so, his camp has begun exploring possible destinations, with Real Madrid understood to be his preferred option.

Real are interested in strengthening midfield but are not thought likely to pay Chelsea’s asking price unless they can raise significant funds through sales. Manchester City have also been mentioned as a possible destination, although their main focus is currently Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson and they are expected to appoint former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola’s successor. Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked but have played down the chances of a move.

Chelsea’s stance reflects the situation they now face after a disappointing season that ended with a 10th-place finish and no trophy. They know they need to back incoming manager Xabi Alonso with proven, Premier League-ready players, but they also do not want to weaken themselves unnecessarily. That leaves Fernandez’s future finely balanced: he wants out, Chelsea want control, and only a huge offer is likely to break the deadlock.
