Omar Berrada says Manchester United can win the Premier League within two years

Posted on June 05, 2026, updated on June 05, 2026

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada believes the club is in a position to win the Premier League within the next two seasons. He said United have made strong progress on and off the pitch and that the current plan is aimed at both immediate success and long-term stability.

Berrada said he would ideally want the title next season, but if not, then the following one. That confidence follows United’s third-place finish in 2025/26 and their return to the Champions League for the first time since 2023. When INEOS took over football operations in 2023, the club had set a wider target of winning a 21st league title by 2028.

He also stressed that the club has a clear transfer strategy for the summer. Berrada said last year’s recruitment model, which brought in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens, showed the kind of approach United want to repeat. He added that the club must remain disciplined with spending and focus on players who fit both the short and long term.

According to Berrada, the sporting department led by Jason Wilcox is well prepared to deliver that plan. He said United want a blend of experience, youth and players who have already shown they can perform in the Premier League, while still keeping an eye on value from outside the league.

Berrada also addressed the future of captain Bruno Fernandes and made clear that United want him to stay. Fernandes had another outstanding season, winning both the Premier League Player of the Year and the FWA Football Writers’ award, while also setting a new Premier League assist record for a single campaign with 21. Berrada described him as a “fantastic captain” and said his leadership off the pitch is also highly valued.

The chief executive was similarly positive about head coach Michael Carrick, who earned a new two-year deal after guiding United to the Champions League. Carrick won 11 of his 16 matches in charge after replacing Ruben Amorim in January, and Berrada said he has earned the right to continue leading the team. He praised Carrick’s calm but driven personality and said his understanding of the club makes him the right fit for the next phase.

Berrada also offered some praise for Amorim, saying the Portuguese coach helped raise standards during a difficult spell, even though United ultimately decided to make a change. He said the improvement under Carrick built on some of that groundwork and that the club now feels better placed to push forward.
