Kieran Trippier weighs Wolves exit after Rob Edwards sacking

Kieran Trippier is reportedly considering cancelling his Wolves contract after the shock dismissal of Rob Edwards, the manager who convinced him to join the club. The veteran defender is said to feel angry and let down by the Molineux hierarchy, having agreed to the move largely because of Edwards’ presence.
Trippier had already cut short a holiday in Turkey to complete a medical and sign a pre-contract agreement. His two-year deal was due to begin on July 1, when his Newcastle contract expires, but the situation has now become uncertain. Edwards had reportedly viewed the 35-year-old as a key part of Wolves’ rebuilding plan, especially in the dressing room after relegation.
The former England international had turned down other Premier League options and interest from Saudi Arabia to join Wolves. That decision was reportedly influenced by Edwards’ long-term project, with Trippier believing the manager’s vision was the best fit for the next stage of his career. Instead, the sudden sacking has left him questioning whether to go through with the move.
Several senior players are also said to have contacted Edwards directly to express their frustration. According to reports, Trippier is now actively considering terminating the agreement, which would be a major blow to Wolves’ summer plans.
The club are still moving quickly to replace Edwards, with Portuguese coach César Peixoto believed to be close to taking over. Peixoto, 46, has earned praise for guiding Gil Vicente to an impressive sixth-place finish in the Primeira Liga last season.
Wolves had hoped the appointment would mark the start of a fresh and progressive rebuild, but Edwards’ departure has created immediate uncertainty. With Trippier’s situation now in doubt, the club face the challenge of calming the fallout and protecting the rest of their transfer plans.
