Aston Villa's Onana ruptures ACL in Belgium's World Cup win over USA

Aston Villa and Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana has ruptured the ACL in his right knee and is expected to miss the rest of the World Cup. Belgium’s team doctor called it “devastating news,” and Onana will stay with the squad while both Belgium and Villa plan his recovery.
Onana was forced off in the 21st minute of Belgium’s 4-1 win over the United States after going down clutching his right knee, and he was later seen on crutches and wearing a brace. ACL ruptures typically mean an absence of around six to nine months.
What it means
It is a major blow for Belgium because Onana had been an important part of their midfield during the tournament. It is also a setback for Villa, who now face a likely lengthy spell without one of their key players.
Belgium said it will work with Villa on the next steps in treatment and rehabilitation, and Onana remains with the squad for their quarter-final against Spain.
